Citizens for a Vibrant Community are pleased to announce the return of the Michigan Vietnam Veterans Traveling Memorial to Art on the River, June 8th and 9th, 2013 on the banks of the Black River and Quay Street in Downtown Port Huron. 2012 was the year that the Michigan Vietnam Veterans Traveling Memorial first visited Port Huron at Art on the River. Our local veterans groups were instrumental in bringing the Memorial to Art on the River, particularly VFW Post 796 and the Ladies Auxiliary and American Legion Post 8 and the Ladies Auxiliary.
What is the Michigan Vietnam Veteran Traveling Memorial? It is a Memorial to the Men and Women from Michigan who lost their lives in the Vietnam War. It’s a message saying “We Will Not Forget” those who did not come home from Southeast Asia and are listed as a Prisoner of War or Missing in Action. It is a place for those who have served to come together in remembrance of their fellow Soldier, Marine, Seaman, Airman, and Coast Guardsman. It is a place to honor those who have received the Flag as the words “on behalf of a proud and grateful nation,” have been spoken. Whatever it may mean to you, let this be a place of honor and healing… The Officers and Members of Chapter #154 Vietnam Veterans of America are proud to sponsor this moving tribute saluting their Brothers and Sisters who have lost their lives and served in Southeast Asia.
