An 18 foot long – 6 foot high replica of the Titanic will be available for viewing during limited hours on Saturdays and Sundays from June 22nd to July 28th at the Moore Boathouse in St. Clair. The Building of an Icon, presented by Fifth Third Bank will see proceeds from the exhibit going to benefit the St. Clair Fund of the Community Foundation of St. Clair County. Weighing more than a ton, this is perhaps the rarest and most valuable model of any kind in the world. Owned by Gary Kohs and his company, Fine Art Models, this famous model is the “builder’s model” of the Titanic and is the only one in existence created in cooperation with Harland & Wolff, builders of the original Titanic. The Kohs’ model is in such demand that it last appeared in America in 2012 at the National Geographic Museum in Washington D.C. during their 100 year anniversary exhibit of the infamous ship. With assistance from Fifth Third Bank, the model is about to begin another world tour, with the St. Clair exhibit, being the only public viewing of the model planned in American for 2013.
