Fifty Two Year Old Charged With Open Murder

The Port Huron Police Department has in custody a 52 year old Port Huron resident in connection with a homicide that occurred late Friday night in the 600 block of Stanton Street. The victim, identified as David Wayne Long age 26 of Port Huron, was pronounced dead shortly after the incident at Port Huron Hospital. The incident began Friday evening at approximately 10:50pm when several people where sitting around a bonfire on Stanton Street, including the victim and suspect. Witnesses indicated that the two men had been involved in a dispute throughout the day and the two engaged in a confrontation while at the fire. The suspect Michael Shawn Poole is reported to have approached the victim and cut his throat with a knife. The suspect fled the scene prior to police arrival. The victim was rushed to Port Huron Hospital where he passed away from his injuries. The suspect was located at his residence in the 1100 block of 10th Street and taken into custody in the St. Clair County Intervention Center and was arraigned yesterday on an of open charge of murder in connection with the slaying. Preliminary exam is expected to take place June 18.
