The Marysville City Council meets tonight to discuss whether to decriminalize the consumption of alcohol and drugs by minors. A proposal being presented tonight calls for the reclassification of certain ordinance violations to municipal civil infractions. Included in those ordinances are open burning, garbage and refuse, animals, drug paraphernalia, overnight street parking, recreational vehicles storage and minor consumption. Fines would be paid directly to the city of Marysville rather than processing them as misdemeanors through the 72nd District Court in Port Huron. Also at tonight’s meeting discussion will place place concerning a new public safety director position created with the consolidation of police and fire department administrations. The new position is expected to be in effect by October. Meeting begins tonight at 7:30 p.m. in the Marysville City Hall.
