Residents are concerned about the usage of fireworks the city of Port Huron saw over the holiday. Mayor Pauline Repp asked Public Safety director Michael Reaves to review, with Council, the city’s fireworks ordinance at this past Monday’s meeting. Reaves said the department received over 400 calls in regards to fireworks over the holiday and were unable to even come close to following them up. Reaves said he intends to bring several proposals before the City Council for approval including one that coincides with a recent amendment to the state’s fireworks law that would allow the city to prohibit fireworks between the hours of 1 a.m. and 8 a.m. According to Mayor Repp, those proposals are expected to be up for discussion by this Thursday special meeting to review city manager candidates. If the topic is placed on the agenda, it would be discussed in open session prior to going into closed session to review the candidates. That meeting is set for 6 p.m. in Room 408 at the Municipal Office Center in Port Huron.
