The St. Clair County Office of Homeland Security and Management is reminding residents to be cautious in the extreme heat that has settled into the area. Director Jeff Friedland says there are some cooling stations available for the public at local townships including Fort Gratiot’s 3720 Keewahdin Road offices which are open from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. Kimball Township Emergency Center Team also has a cooling station at the American Legion Hall at 7150 Smiths Creek Road which will be open till midnight tonight. The group plans on offering up the hall at 2160 Wadhams Road at the Kimball Township Offices on Wednesday. Air conditioning can also be found at public libraries and at the mall. Residents should check with their local government to see if additional facilities are available. Weather forecasters have warned that we need to take precautions with the heat which is not expected to break until Thursday. Daytime highs are expected to be in the low 90’s in most of the area. Heat related sickness and other problems can occur. Friedland says several agencies have information available concerning heat advisories including the National Weather Service, Centers for Disease Control, and FEMA.
