St. Clair County Community College’s Spiral Gallery at Studio 1219 in Port Huron will be featuring the work of SC4 student Shelby Castillo from Aug. 1 to 31. The show – “Tell me what you see” – is a brief overview of the human figure and its relation to the environmental surroundings. It will include a selection of thrown and hand-built ceramics, traditional black and white film photography, and drawings in charcoal and coffee. A show opening is scheduled for 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9. Castillo also will be featured as an “SC4 Artist in Action” from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Aug 23. The “SC4 Artist in Action” takes place in the first-floor display window of Studio 1219. Studio visitors will be able to watch her work and talk about art. Castillo is a sophomore studying ceramics and photography at SC4. She previously studied product design at the College for Creative Studies. She plans to pursue humanitarian work. Each month, the work of a different artist is featured in the Spiral Gallery. Studio 1219 hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday.
