Rep. Lauwers To Host Local Agriculture Town Hall
Representative Kevin Daley
State Rep. Dan Lauwers along with Rep. Kevin Daley, chair of the House Agriculture Committee, will visit St. Clair County on Tuesday, Aug. 13 for a public town hall meeting to discuss Michigan’s agriculture industry. The town hall meeting starts at 5:30 p.m. at Lewis Farms, 5570 North Road, in North Street, Mich. Marty and Charlie Lewis are fourth- and fifth-generation sugar beet and cattle farmers. Daley, along with other committee members, is travelling around the state this summer meeting with farmers. Agriculture contributes more than $70 billion annually to Michigan’s economy, making it the second largest industry in the state. “Michigan’s farming heritage is a fundamental part of our state’s history, and it continues to play a huge role in St. Clair County,” said Lauwers, an agriculture committee member. “The industry also is a great source of jobs, so we need to continually look at ways to improve and grow this important economic sector.” No RSVP is needed for the event.
