The St. Clair County Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management is now officially at new offices at the St. Clair County International Airport. A 5,000 square foot building recently purchased through local and federal grant monies has been remodeled to allow for the move. The two-story building, once used as a restaurant and by various aviation related companies, contains communications equipment to help local officials handle emergencies. Two dozen computers and several digital monitors can be used in an area designated as the Emergency Operations Center. Director Jeff Friedland says the EOC is an important tool for the county Friedland says there will be many exercises conducted at the site to test the readiness of local safety officials. Included in the coordination center are three dispatch positions, a complete GIS room for mapping, and a public information room. “At the end of the day it’s trying to look out for the welfare and safety of our residents with limited resources.” That effort Friedland says is a challenge. The main phone number at the St. Clair County Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management remains (810) 989-6965.
