On August 27th Blue Water Habitat for Humanity is bringing local legislators into the community to help three Port Huron homeowners make exterior repairs to their homes. Legislators Building Communities (LBC) is a summer-long opportunity for state legislators to participate in service projects that strengthen neighborhoods in their districts. These three Port Huron homes are at or near the intersection of Scott and Poplar streets – the homeowners were referred to the LBC program through the City’s Community Development Division. This project aims to directly engage and educate state and local elected officials on affordable housing and community development issues. Invitations have been sent to 30 state and local legislators, Port Huron Mayor Pauline Repp has committed her time as have a number of county and city council members. In addition to these local and state lawmakers, the Port Huron Fighting Falcons will be out in force all day. Lunch and drinks will be provided by a number of Port Huron area businesses and faith organizations. If you would like to volunteer, contact Amanda at 810-985-9080 ext. 205.
