This weekend at the Michigan Renaissance Festival’s Highland Fling all that is Scottish along with honoring Michiganders is the theme, with Michigan’s Own Beer Tasting in the Special Events area. Thinking globally the US Canadian Highland Heavy Games will be featured. Watching the athleticism of these burly men compete in events like the cabor toss, basically throwing a telephone pole as far as you can, remains a patron favorite. Saturday will be the day for the big boys, the true professional Highland Heavy Gamers to test their strength and defend their titles, with Sunday being the day for amateurs to make a name for themselves. It is a contest that is Internationally recognized and truly fun to watch! To round out the Highland theme there will be a Pipe and Drum Blowout and Scottish Dancers. The bag pipes can be heard all across the site as we embrace all that is Scottish. Queen Elizabeth herself will also be going Scottish this weekend judging the Men in Kilts competition!
