The Port Huron Police Department Explorer Program is currently accepting applications from interested men and women between 14-20 years old. The Explorer program focuses on young adults that have a strong interest in a law enforcement career. The voluntary program meets once a week during which members receive training in law enforcement related areas such as domestic violence, building searches, traffic stops, firearms, and many other topics. Explorers have the opportunity to attend a state competition and a week long academy. Explorers also have the ability to do ride-alongs with officers on road patrol after attending the state academy. Many former Port Huron Police Department Explorers have gone on to successful careers in law enforcement. Applications are available at the Port Huron Police Department. Questions should be directed to the program’s coordinator, Officer Jennifer Sly at 810-984-8415. If unavailable a message should be left in voicemail #1924.
