A man fishing in Black River caught something that was definitely not a fish Wednesday afternoon. According to St. Clair County Sheriff Tim Donnellon, the man was fishing the river near the 6800 block of Norman Road around 5:00 when he pulled in a suspicious looking object. He realized it was a pipe bomb, carried it to the shoulder of Norman Road and contacted the Sheriff’s Office. Deputies responded and found the object was a PVC pipe wrapped in a plastic orange juice bottle and taped with duct tape. The Michigan State Police Bomb Squad was called. They were able to disarm the pipe bomb, which did contain explosive materials. The bomb squad took the device to their lab and will conduct an investigation into the incident with the Sheriff’s Office Detective Bureau. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact Detective Steve Rickert at (810) 987-1731.
