Beginning September 16, St. Clair County residents can receive their flu vaccines on a walk-in basis every Monday from 10 am until 6 pm and Wednesday 8 am until 4 pm at the Health Department located at 3415 28th Street in Port Huron. Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays by appointment. Flu vaccines will also be available by appointment, for those 10-21 years of age, at the Teen Health Center located at 2215 Court Street on the campus of Port Huron High School. Flu shots and Flu Mist will be available. This year, the vaccine the Health Department is administering will cover 4 strains of the flu. A flu vaccination is necessary every season, as immunity can wane and flu strains change. The best prevention anyone 6 months of age or older has against the flu is to get vaccinated. For those who are uninsured, cost will vary based on income eligibility and family size. Most insurance is accepted and consider flu vaccination a covered benefit.
