Two suspects believed to be involved in several home invasions are in custody today, thanks in part to tips provided by citizens checking the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page. According to Sheriff Tim Donnellon, a 29 year old man and 35 year old woman from Clay Township are expected to face charges of home invasion at arraignment tomorrow. “Once again, the citizens of St. Clair County have stepped up,” said Sheriff Donnellon. “We are pleased that the use of social media has once again assisted in the arrest of thieves. I am also very happy with diligent work of the detectives involved in the case following up on the leads and making the arrests. It shows the power of the public working together with law enforcement to make our community a safer place to live.” Detectives from the Sheriff’s Office have been investigating several home invasions in the Columbus, Casco and St. Clair Township area over the past two months. A photo taken by a surveillance camera was posted on the Sheriff’s Office Facebook Page on August 20th. Several citizens contacted the Detective Bureau with information of the possible identity of the man shown in the picture. Investigation into the information received led to the arrest of the man and woman Wednesday afternoon.
