The Michigan Renaissance Festival will be closing out our 2013 season with our Sweet Endings Weekend!! We will have our returning Royal Cupcake Crusades, sponsored by SugarHigh Bakery of Frankenmuth, both recreational (Saturday) and professional bakers (Sunday) will try their hand at becoming the best baker in all the realm. The cupcakes are created in Renaissance fashion to delight the taste buds of our judges and to win a cash prize! We will also be having a Chocolate Festival in the Special Events area with many of our guest vendors exhibiting cookies, cakes, and other confections that will certainly satisfy any sweet tooth. There is another reason to celebrate this weekend as we host seven of Michigan’s finest local vineyards at our daily wine tastings. This has become an event that has skyrocketed in popularity and has people coming back year after year. With five tastes for five dollars, patrons have the opportunity to taste some of Michigan’s own wines and meads and chat with the owners about how they are made. The Michigan Renaissance Festival was established in 1979 as a recreated 16th century English village. The 15-acre site is filled with over 195 amazing artisans who offer gallery-quality artwork and unique merchandise including glassware, crafted leather, exotic jewelry, and renaissance-inspired clothing. The festival features a full cast of over 150 entertainers from all over the country, including a Royal Court, peasants, jugglers, full armored knights and horses, dancers, fairies, human statues, and much more. The Michigan Renaissance Festival is located in Holly, Mich., off I-75, Grand Blanc exit 106, on Dixie Highway between Pontiac and Flint. It takes place for seven weekends, including Labor Day: August 19th – September 29th. The village gate opens at 10 a.m., and closes at 7 p.m., rain or shine.
