Fire Calls Keep Fort Gratiot Township Firefighters Busy
May 29th, 2012

A fire of one its stoves at The Golden Corral, on 24th Ave. in Fort Gratiot, caused the business to be closed for a few hours Saturday. Fort Gratiot firefighters responded about 1 a.m. Saturday to smoke coming out of the vent at the top of the building’s roof. After entering the building, firefighters quickly extinguished what appeared to be a fire caused by a burner on the stove being left on and the grease caught fire. The incident caused some smoke damage.  Just a short time later Fort Gratiot firefighters responded to natural gas fire on Quaker Hill Drive in Fort Gratiot. The subdivision has natural gas lamps and it appears the fire started after a gas line underneath a street lamp ruptured. The natural gas fire was about 30 feet long. Firefighters extinguished the fire and stood by until SEMCO crews arrived on location to repair the gas leak. There were no injuries in the incident
