The right people in the right seats
June 1st, 2012
In his book Good to Great, author Jim Collins makes the point that success requires an organization or company to make sure the right people are in the right seats on the bus. The point being, that it can be a disaster when someone not qualified or capable of performing a given task or job attempts to do it anyway. It would be like asking me to teach a class of kindergarteners. I’m not capable or qualified and after I was done trying, the students would surely have to repeat kindergarten. In spite of this common sense concept, companies, governments, and organizations do it all the time. Then they scratch their heads and wonder what went wrong. They blame everyone and everything, when the real reason for failure was as simple as taking on something way outside their area of expertise.
