Art On The River - Part Of River Day Celebrations
June 7th, 2012
This weekend will mark the second annual Art On The River in downtown Port Huron – sponsored by Citizens For A Vibrant Community – a volunteer and sponsor driven event. Art on the River is fun for the entire family. Many local crafters, artists, businesses and nonprofits signed up to participate. The Blue Water Art Club, Studio 1219, jewelers, photographers, potters, artists, and musicians – all part of the fun. This year a kids zone sponsored by downtown Port Huron’s Subway restaurant with inflatables, Zip Racers, sidewalk chalk and more will be available for children to enjoy. To help cover their cost, a $5 charge for a wristband will be made for the inflatables. With the wristbands, children can play on the inflatable of their choice for the entire day. The band lineup includes folk, country, rock, rap and even 80s rock/punk musical groups performing on two stages throughout the event. The Brothers In Arms Stage, made up of acoustic musicians, is at Heritage Park with artists and crafters next to the Military Street Bridge. The main stage in the West Quay Parking Lot will feature Vinny Dombroski and the Orbitsuns. The Orbitsuns recently tied with local artist Julianne Ankley for Best Country Recording in the Detroit Music Awards. The Michigan Vietnam Veterans Traveling Memorial will be highlighted with a special ceremony at 9:45 a.m Saturday welcoming the memorial. Active military members and veterans will attend. Local and state dignitaries will welcome the memorial as well. Art on the River will be from 10 a.m. to midnight June 9 and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. June 10.
