Neighborhoods Gearing Up For National Night Out
June 22nd, 2012

The Port Huron Police Department wants to get neighbors fired up and planning for the city wide block party known as National Night Out in August. On Tuesday, August 7th, 2012 citizens across the country will join together with their neighbors to let criminals know they are organized and fighting back to get crime off their streets.   Neighborhoods that have established Neighborhood Watch Groups can have their block captain contact the Police Department to schedule a visit from officers throughout the evening. Those neighborhoods without a Neighborhood Watch are invited to join together and plan a block party to learn more about establishing a Neighborhood Watch group that works in conjunction with police.  Last year the City of Port Huron had 17 neighborhoods that participated in National Night Out. This year even more participation is expected with the introduction of our Community Oriented Policing program. The most effective way to run crime out of our neighborhoods is to team our police with the citizens and work together to better our city. Applications for National Night Out are available by contacting Officer Laura Phillips at 810-984-9715 or email at phillipl@porthuron.org.
