Friday saw blue skies and very warm temperatures, just perfect for being on the water…and Jobbie Nooner participants couldn’t have been happier.  Jobbie Nooner is held at Gull Island on Lake St. Clair in June and September. Originally, the celebration was created by union workers who decided to leave work early to take their boats out on a summer day.  It has become somewhat of a small Mardi Gras, where participants anchor their boats close together around the island, enjoy the weather, and usually imbibe in a great deal of alcohol.  The celebration begins early and continues throughout the day.  Agencies the Canada and the U.S. patrolled the area, including coast guards from both countries as well as the sheriff department and local law enforcement from Clay Township and Algonac.
