Runners Raising Money Before Parade Begins Wednesday
July 9th, 2012
The Safe Horizons Rotary Parade 5K Race is something new this year and will begin at 5 p.m. Wednesday before the parade’s start at 6:30 p.m. The event will raise funds for Blue Water Safe Horizons, the Port Huron Northern High School boys cross country team and the Port Huron Northern Athletic Boosters. The route starts at Elite Feet, 908 Military St. in Port Huron, and goes through the downtown. There will be cross country runners helping with the event and well as running in the race. Some 15% of the Safe Horizon budget was lost due to local, state and federal cuts and the organization also has reduced its management staff from seven to two people over the past year. The organization is trying to raise $60,000 before the end of the fiscal year on Sept. 30. Thus far, they have raised all but $6,000 of that goal.
