House Race Heats Up
July 19th, 2012

Paul Muxlow

Bob Eick

Last night, Republican Paul Muxlow and Republican Bob Eick,  candidates for the 83rdHouse race squared off in Sandusky.  What might have been an ordinary debate suddenly became heated when Bob Eick told the audience of some 70 people, that Paul Muxlow had offered him a job in exchange for getting out of the race.  Muxlow, vehemently denied the charge, telling WGRT that he did have about a 3 minute conversation with Eick asking him to withdraw until Muxlow was term limited out in four years.  However Muxlow told WGRT that he denied offering Eick a job and he doesn’t know what Eick is talking about.  Eick told WGRT that Muxlow very clearly offered him a job in exchange for dropping out.  Muxlow stated that this type of conversation happens all the time, to which Eick responded, “if that is so, it needs to stop.  Eick says it is unethical.

For the past couple of weeks, Paul Muxlow has been complaining about the Great Lakes Education Project (GLEP) campaign against him.   He has taken to calling his opponents ‘billionaire-backed bullies from Grand Rapids”.   Eick told the audience in Sandusky, that he had indeed met with GLEP, but declined their endorsement and has taken no money from them.  Furthermore, Eick told WGRT that he was not recruited by anyone to run against Muxlow, but made this decision on his own, feeling that Representative Muxlow was out of touch with the people he was elected to represent.  The voters of the 83rd District will choose on August 7th beween Paul Muxlow and Bob Eick to run on the Republican ticket in November.
