A 49 year old Algonac man was killed yesterday in a hit and run crash on Dixie Highway.  According to St. Clair County Sheriff Tim Donnellon, the man was driving his motorcycle in the 9400 block of Dixie Highway, when he was struck by a pickup truck, driven by a 40 year old New Baltimore man.  The driver of the motorcycle was pronounced dead at the scene.  The driver of the pickup fled the scene of the 4:30 p.m. crash, but was observed by citizens who called St. Clair County Central Dispatch.  The suspect was spotted entering a garage on Baltimore Street in New Baltimore.  Deputies from the Sheriff’s Office, assisted by New Baltimore Police, Chesterfield Township Police and Michigan State Police responded to the house.  A search warrant was being prepared to enter the home when the suspect came out.  He was arrested without incident.  Because he was involved in a crash, he was taken to River District Hospital to be checked, then taken to the St. Clair County Intervention and Detention Center. The crash remains under investigation and charges including leaving the scene of a fatal accident will be sought against the New Baltimore man. Ira Township Fire and Rescue and Tri-Hospital EMS assisted at the scene of the crash.  The name of the deceased is being held pending notification of next of kin.
