Man In Jail Following Assault
August 17th, 2012

A 28 year old Fort Gratiot man is lodged at the St. Clair County Intervention and Detention Center after chasing his ex-girlfriend with a knife.  According to St. Clair County Sheriff Tim Donnellon, deputies were dispatched to the home on Elmwood Drive shortly after 4:00 this afternoon.  A call had been received that the suspect was doing damage inside the residence he shared with the 28 year old woman.  The woman had left the residence, went across the street to her brother’s house and called 911.  The woman at that time said the suspect was mad because they had broken up their relationship the night before.  While deputies were on the way to the residence, the suspect went to the brother’s house, talked to the woman briefly then pulled a large kitchen knife and began chasing the victim through the yard.  The victim’s brother intervened and disarmed the suspect as deputies were pulling into the yard.  Neither the victim nor her brother was injured.  The suspect, who suffered minor injuries was treated at the scene, taken into custody, transported to Port Huron Hospital for treatment, and then transported to the IDC.  The suspect remains in custody pending arraignment in Port Huron’s 72nd District Court.  Sheriff Deputies are requesting a charge of assault with intent to do great bodily harm, less than murder.
