SJMPH Announces New CEO

The Saint Joseph Mercy Health System, with unanimous support of the St. Joseph Mercy Port Huron Board of Trustees, has announced that effective immediately Rebekah (Becky) Smith, RN, has been named President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of St. Joseph Mercy Port Huron. “Becky has been leading the hospital exceptionally well in the interim role over the past several months,” commented Garry C. Faja, President and CEO of the Saint Joseph Mercy Health System, “during which time she maintained stability and established a clear sense of leadership on behalf of St. Joseph Mercy Port Huron (SJMPH) staff and physicians.” Since 2008, Smith had served as Vice President of Ancillary Services at SJMPH, where she led the organization through numerous growth, performance improvement, leadership building, customer service and financial initiatives that resulted in very successful outcomes for the organization. Her career includes varied experience working locally in the health care industry as well as serving in both direct care and clinical leadership positions at Mercy Hospital from 1980 to 1989, and again from 1993 to 1997. In her previous work, Smith also served as a consultant for vascular services in the Port Huron community from 1998-2008; Vascular Services Laboratory Director of the Port Huron Vascular Clinic from 1989-1993; and nursing instructor for both associate degree and licensed practical nursing programs at St. Clair County Community College. Smith earned an Associate Nursing degree from St. Clair County Community College; a Bachelor of Applied Science degree from Siena Heights University; and a Master of Healthcare Administration degree from Central Michigan University.
