The Fenian Raid at Vantage Point
September 1st, 2012

In 1870, Port Huron was the launch point along with the city of Detroit for the Fenian Brotherhood to capture British North America (now known as Canada) and hold them hostage to use as a bargaining chip to liberate Ireland. A canon was rolled down Military at the foot of Griswold Street. From there, they intended to launch their attack on Sarnia. British soliders however lined the shore on the Canadian side, and the attack put off. The Fenian Raid event will be re-enacted this Labor Day Weekend – a parade, opening and closing ceremonies, cannon firings, storytelling, a Saturday Night ball and more. It will be at Vantage Point and admission is free. Saturday, September 1 & Sunday, September 2 the encampment will be open from 11am – 5pm. We will ‘Party on the Green’ from 7:00 – 8:30pm on Saturday evening.  For more information call (810) 989-6002 or visit www.fenianraid.com.
