Local Man Works On Construction In Afghanistan

Constructionman Apprentice John E. Harris, son of Melissa A. Harris of Port Huron, Mich. and David D. Harris, II of Port Huron, Mich., who is assigned with Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB) 11, recently completed construction of a 3, 100-square-foot medical facility at a combat outpost in southern Afghanistan. The facility, which houses a trauma ward, two operating rooms, a laboratory, and a post-anesthesia recovery room will provide medical evacuation support and trauma care for operating forces at numerous outposts and forward operating bases in that region. Homeported in Gulfport, Miss., the battalion is deployed to Afghanistan to conduct general, mobility and survivability engineering operations.  Harris is a 2011 graduate of Port Huron High School of Port Huron, Mich. and joined the Navy in February 2011.
