The Port Huron Police Department say they have seen a successful launch of its proactive effort to further curb criminal activity in our neighborhoods. The program, officially announced in August 2012 as “Operation Safe Streets”, has targeted criminal activity by focusing specific policing actions such as undercover work, directed patrols, bike teams and warrant sweeps at those people that threaten the quality of life in our neighborhoods. The program, after just 7 weeks, is directly responsible for 60 arrests, 39 citations, numerous public contacts and the confiscation of cocaine, heroin, marijuana, various drug paraphernalia and over $16,000 in forfeited property.  Operation Safe Streets will continue to target high crime areas, reported nuisance problems and actively pursue known criminals to make our streets safer. Future operations are planned and the word in the community is getting out; if you are committing a crime in Port Huron, the police are coming for you.
