Hamzavi Foundation Endowment Scholarship Fund
October 26th, 2012

The SC4 Foundation has established the Hamzavi Foundation Endowment Scholarship Fund, which annually will award a scholarship to a St. Clair County Community College student.  The scholarship is made possible by a $30,000 pledge this month to SC4’s “All Aboard: Campaign for Talent, Technology and Tomorrow” by Dr. S.L. Husain Hamzavi of Port Huron, and a $15,000 matching gift from the Community Foundation of St. Clair County.  SC4 and the SC4 Foundation launched the two-year, $1 million campaign Nov. 1 to raise money for student scholarships and five capital projects on the college’s Port Huron campus.  The Community Foundation’s Board of Directors approved a $75,000 challenge grant Jan. 31. The grant will provide 50 cents from the Community Foundation for every dollar raised by the campaign, up to a total $75,000 match.

As of Oct. 5, $545,231.23, or 55%, has been pledged or raised for the campaign.

Hamzavi is a founding member of Hamzavi Dermatology in Fort Gratiot, Clinton Township and Canton. He also is a professor of dermatology at Wayne State University and a staff member of several hospitals, including Port Huron Hospital and St. Joseph Mercy Port Huron.

He is a member of SC4’s Alumni Association Board and Global Diversity Advisory Council.

“This community has made me what I am today,” Hamzavi said. “I want to give back. I hope others in the community will do the same and invest in the college and our students.”

The “All Aboard: Campaign for Talent, Technology and Tomorrow” includes these projects: McMorran Greenway and Street Closure; Natural Science Museum Expansion; Historical Restoration of Room 312, Main Building; Campus Innovation Center; Campus Signage; and student scholarships.
