Man Released From Prison
November 20th, 2012

St. Clair County’s Prosecutor’s office says the case against James Grissom has been dismissed and he was set free yesterday.  The 54-year old Grissom was found guilty by a jury in 2003 and sentenced to 15 to 35 years in prison for attacking and raping a Port Huron woman in the Fort Gratiot Meijer parking lot in 2001. Following his conviction, officials found numerous allegations of sexual assaults by the woman.  Reports say St. Clair Prosecutor Michael Wendling requested Judge Cynthia Lane to dismiss the charge of first degree criminal sexual conduct rather than going forward with a new trial after the Michigan Supreme Court issued an opinion stating Grissom deserves a new trial after evidence was discovered following his conviction in 2003.
