St. Clair County Community College has used a $3,000 Greenforce Initiative Innovation Mini Grant to help produce three videos showcasing how SC4 uses its green technology to educate students.  The videos, available for viewing on SC4’s YouTube channel (www.youtube.com/sc4tv) or on the college’s website at www.sc4.edu/livinglabs, highlight several of SC4’s Living Labs. The labs immerse students in real-world technology by turning campus buildings and components into instructional spaces. As a result, students get hands-on learning through the same equipment SC4 uses to power and operate its campus.  The videos show how SC4 students study bioswales; rain gardens; green roofs; solar hot water, heat and electrical systems; wind turbine technology; and a geothermal heating and cooling system.  Collaborating on the grant from SC4 were Dr. Patricia Leonard, dean of students and grants; Shelly Simmons, senior accountant – grants; and Shawn Starkey, executive director of public relations, marketing and legislative affairs. Chris Sebastian, communications specialist, coordinated the video project. Eighth Day Media of Kimball Township produced the videos. The college provided a match of $1,500 for the project.
