If you are going to drink on New Year’s Eve, don’t get behind the wheel.  Michigan State Police will be on the lookout for drunken drivers in St. Clair County in the coming days.  Reports say more than 100 law enforcement agencies in the state are participating in a drunken driving crackdown that began last week and continues through Jan. 1, according to a statement from the Michigan Office of Highway Safety Planning.  The St. Clair County Sheriff Department, Michigan State Police, and police departments in Clay Township, Port Huron, Marysville, St. Clair and Marine City will participate in the added patrols which is paid for through a grant.   It is reported that 14 people died in traffic crashes over the New Year holiday last year, five of which were alcohol related.  Patrols will be on the lookout for drunken drivers, minors in possession of alcohol and crashes related to drunken driving.  Blue Water Area Transit will be providing a free service called Safe Ride from 8 p.m. on New Year’s Eve to 4 a.m. New Year’s Day, There will be three buses available to take people to and from gatherings in Fort Gratiot, Port Huron, Port Huron Township and Marysville.  Buses not in the program also will be free after 6 p.m. New Year’s Eve.
