Anchor Drop - Highlight Of New Year's Eve
January 2nd, 2013
The anchor dropped in downtown Port Huron at the stroke of midnight to the cheers of hundreds of people as they saw 2013 make its appearance. The celebration saw McMorran Boulevard between Huron and Erie Streets closed as partiers rang in the new year with a simulated splash with the city’s first Anchor Drop. A beer tent, music and ice skating were also part of the festivities. Mayor Pauline Repp helped pull the switch to begin the lighted anchor’s downward path into a wave sculpture, representing the wave of the future in 2013. Both anchor and sculpture were designed and constructed by students at St. Clair County Community College.
