All deer from the year 2012 must be checked in by hunters by Friday, January 4^th, according to the Michigan Department of Natural Resources.  The DNR says biological data received at check stations helps it make management decisions. Hunters participating in the check in are asked to submit, skulls with intact jaws, teeth and antlers and upon check-in will receive  a 2012 deer management cooperator patch.  A list of check stations is posted at www.michigan.gov/dnr   Hunters who killed a deer in a number of counties are asked to submit the deer’s head for bovine tuberculosis testing.  Bovine tuberculosis is a contagious bacterial disease of cattle and other animals which was found  among Michigan deer in 1994.
