
Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration At SC4

St. Clair County Community College will present its 11th annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 21, in the Fine Arts Theatre on the Port Huron campus. The event will feature a musical and dramatic celebration of King’s legacy with a diverse variety of musicians, musical styles, dramatic performances and dance. Scheduled presenters and performers include, Blue Water Council Boy Scouts, Alesondra Christmas, Colonial Woods Missionary Church Bell Choir, Miguel Ferry of S.O.N.S., Kim Miller-West, Samuel Oats, The Rainbow Singers, SC4 Choir and a drummer from Port Huron High School, Colin Smith. Co-masters of ceremonies will be Mark Chapman, Port Huron High School student, and Shaker Samman, Port Huron Northern High School student. Speaking will be Alphonso Amos, president, Port Huron branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People; Anita Ashford, coordinating lead, 2013 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration; David Goetze, SC4 director of college advancement and alumni relations; Pete Lacey, SC4 vice president of student services; the Rev. Tony Miller; and Dr. Kevin A. Pollock, SC4 president. Admission is free. The event is sponsored by the Port Huron branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, SC4 Global Diversity Advisory Council and the Times Herald.
