Jazz, Dinner And Dancing With Your Valentine
January 18th, 2013
St. Clair County Community College will offer “Jazz, Dinner and Dancing with your Valentine” from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, in the College Center Atrium on the college’s Port Huron campus. Attendees will be able to enjoy dinner and dancing while listening to musical selections by SC4’s Jazz Band and featured guest the Rhythm Society Orchestra with Paul King on vocals. The annual fundraiser for the SC4 Jazz Band started several years ago as Jazz and Dessert. This year, it has been expanded to include a sit-down dinner, cash bar and guest band. Dinner includes a tossed salad and dessert; vegetarian or gluten-free dinners are available upon request. Erick J. Senkmajer is conductor for the SC4 Jazz Band and SC4 Symphonic Band. Based in Detroit, the Rhythm Society Orchestra is a 15-piece dance band specializing in vintage swing music and heavily influenced by Count Basie and Harry James. The band has performed at venues throughout the Midwest and has been featured on numerous television and radio programs. King describes his style as “a mixture of Mel Torme, Joe Williams and Frank Sinatra – with a dash of Cab Calloway thrown in.” Tickets are $50 per person. Reservations are required by Friday, Feb. 1. For tickets, visitwww.sc4.edu/band or call (810) 989-5513 between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. weekdays.
