SC4 Celebrating 90th Anniversary In 2013

St. Clair County Community College throughout 2013 is celebrating the 90th anniversary of its founding.  As part of its celebrations, SC4 has developed a detailed timeline on its Facebook page. The timeline lists events large and small throughout the college’s history.  To view a chronology of the college’s history, as well as photos and memorabilia contributed by the community, visit SC4’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/followsc4. On the right side of the page, click on any of the years or decades to begin viewing the milestones on the timeline.  The college also will incorporate the anniversary as part of events for students, faculty, staff, alumni and the community throughout 2013.

Among the events will be:

  • 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 10 – An SC4 alumni from each decade will be honored at SC4’s Commencement.
  • 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 11 – A 90th birthday party will be celebrated in the College Center Atrium.
  • July 18, 19 and 20 – A three-day anniversary and Homecoming celebration is planned.

Numerous personalities also are recording video messages congratulating SC4 on 90 years. The videos, as well as details about anniversary events, will be posted throughout the year at www.sc4.edu/90th.  The college officially was created June 11, 1923, as Port Huron Junior College by a vote of the school board for Port Huron Area School District. At that time, the junior college was governed by the school district. The junior college opened for classes that fall with six instructors teaching 34 students in 16 classes.A vote of the people June 12, 1967, officially transformed the junior college into a countywide community college renamed as St. Clair County Community College.  Today, the college is an educational leader, annually serving more than 6,300 students on its 25-acre Port Huron campus, at four extended learning centers and through online classes.  For more information, visit www.sc4.edu/90th.
