Port Huron Board Of Education Scheduled For Two Meeting Tonight
February 11th, 2013

Ron Wollen Port Huron Area School District Superintendent

The Port Huron Board of Education has two meeting scheduled for this evening.  A special workshop is set for 5 p.m. to discuss the board’s self-evaluation review and receive an update from the strategic plan committee.  The board will look at their progress and discuss options for evaluating how the board is working, and they will also  receive an update from the board’s strategic plan committee working toward developing a three to five year plan for the district. Then, at 7 p.m. a regular board meeting will be held  Both meetings will be at the McKinley Building, 2720 Riverside Drive.  The board will hear updates on Holland Woods Middle School which was labeled a priority school by the state in August because it is in the bottom 5 percent of lowest achieving schools in Michigan. An improvement plan was submitted to the state in November and approved in January.  Also up for review is the Harrison Center’s diploma program changed last year when the school reduced the number of credits needed to receive a diploma from 22 to 16.25.  The state requires 16 credits as long as students complete the course requirements of the Michigan Merit Curriculum. The district had required 22 credits.
