Marwood Nursing and Rehab Receives $75k Matching Grant
February 15th, 2013

The James C. Acheson Foundation has awarded Marwood Nursing and Rehab, located at 1300 Beard Street in Port Huron, a $75,000 matching grant for its expansion and renovation project to create what they term “neighborhoods” at the facility. Work began last April and includes the addition of 32 semi-private rooms, with four “neighborhoods” or wings, allowing room capacity to drop from three people to two. Each neighborhood will have its own dining room, living room and service kitchen. New rooms include a half wall in the middle to give roommates privacy, a window on each side of the room so both residents can have natural light and more storage space in the room and bathroom. Marwood houses about 240 people, including about 45 short- term residents there for rehabilitation. The $8.1 million project is funded with health care bonds through Port Huron Hospital, with which Marwood is affiliated, and donations. Donations to match the $75,000 grant from the James C. Acheson Foundation can be made online at www.marwoodmanor.org, by phone at (810) 966-5426 or by mail to Marwood Nursing and Rehab, 1300 Beard St., Port Huron, MI 48060.
