Joseph Johns To Be Honored Tonight At The Marysville City Council Meeting
February 25th, 2013
Joseph Johns will see his birthday celebrated tonight at the Marysville City Council meeting. Johns, who turned 90 last Saturday, is the longest-serving member of the council. Johns has lived in Marysville his entire life, and was elected to the council in 1951. He served as mayor from 1958 to 1964 and again from 1977 to 1983. He has been mayor pro tem since 1985. The only time he didn’t serve as part of city council was when he lived in other parts of the country for work. Mr. Johns and his wife, Mary Lou, married since 1951 have three children, eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Randy Fernandez, assistant city manager and community development director, says “you won’t find anyone who cares more about the city of Marysville than Joe Johns”. “When someone gives as much and for as long as Johns, they need to be recognized.” The meeting will be held in council chambers at 7:30 p.m. this evening.
