School Districts Asking For Renewal Of Millages
February 26th, 2013

Voters are headed to the polls today in a number of communities today, including Sandusky where Sandusky Community Schools residents are being asked to vote on a 10 year renewal of the 18-mill non-homestead renewal.  The amount to be voted upon represents about 10 percent of the school district’s operations budget.  Renewal of this tax allows the district to receive the full amount of funding.  The non-homestead renewal failed in the November election by a mere 11 votes.  The district suffered a loss in funding due to enrollment being down by 73 students.  Voters in Yale are being asked to consider a .22-mill tax which failed by 68 votes this past November which authorities say would be used to pay for technology including security measures and transportation.  The district also hopes to buy four to six new buses.
