
Special Friendships Celebrated At Marwood Nursing And Rehab

Marwood Nursing and Rehab honors older adults and the children who love them, each year by offering their “My Best Older Friend” Essay Contest, during Older Americans Month. This is the 25th annual contest for elementary school children in St. Clair County. I believe it was the first year of the contest that one of our employee’s children won in her grade division, and a few years later, someone who is now employed at WGRT took a top prize. I remember the joy expressed by the grandmothers of whom these two wrote! What a compliment, to be named “A Best Older Friend” by a young person! What an experience for children to look at the elders around them and talk about that special friendship. It’s easy to enter. Children from grades 1st through 5th are asked to write a one page essay about their friendship with a senior. Entries are due, Wednesday April 24 can be dropped off in person or mailed to:
