Donations Are Being Accepted For Community Benefit Fund
December 13th, 2011
The Blue Water Area Chamber of Commerce is accepting donations to its 501c3 foundation, Community Benefit Fund, from its membership and the general public to support a 27-year program that recognizes high school students in the Port Huron Area School District who achieve a 3.5 or higher grade point average with an academic pin or letter. An Annual Donation Drive continues through December 31, 2011; however, donations are accepted year round. The Chamber sponsors award assemblies in the fall and a senior program and reception in the spring at Port Huron Northern and Port Huron High Schools. If the Chamber reaches its fundraising goal of $8,750 it will expand the program to Marysville High School and Landmark Academy in 2012. Since its inception in 1984, the Community Benefit Fund has provided over 10,000 academic awards to students who earn the distinction of academic excellence. “The Chamber will continue to recognize our community’s highest academic achievers, and encourage their personal and professional growth and success,” said chamber president, Vickie Ledsworth. “The Chamber believes in our investment to support the academic success of our youth because there is a direct link between a community’s academic success and its economic success,” she added.
