More tax relief proposals for businesses along with ways to save money in the state’s school employee retirement systems will be what Republicans who lead the Michigan Legislature are looking at in the coming days. Lawmakers are returning to Lansing today to begin the final year of a two-year legislative cycle. While discussion will take place, no voting is expected to take place today in the House and Senate. Republicans say they hope to build on legislation passed last year to lower overall business taxes and reduce some of the state’s long-term financial obligations; eliminating or phasing out the state’s personal property tax paid by businesses and utilities.  As for the Governor, he will be working to prepare his second annual State of the State address to be delivered on January 18 along with detailing a new budget plan in February.
