Community Foundation Pledges $75,000 Grant To SC4
February 7th, 2012
The Community Foundation of St. Clair County approved a $75,000 grant last week for the McMorran Greenway and Street Closure project. The Community Foundation will give SC4 50 cents for every dollar the campaign raises, divided into three matching payments of up to $25,000. Beginning this spring, SC4 will close McMorran Boulevard between Erie and River streets and River Street between McMorran and Willow Street to create a pedestrian walkway and green space, which officials are calling the “front door” to the college. Port Huron City Council approved the street closures on Jan. 23. Officials said the SC4 Foundation will have about two years to raise $150,000 necessary to get the full match available from the Community Foundation. As of Jan. 31, the college had raised a third of the one million dollar cost, which does not include the Community Foundation pledge.
