Police Continue Investigation Into Crash Resulting In One Death

The Port Huron Police Department continues investigation into a traffic crash that has resulted in the death of a 41 year old Port Huron resident. The crash occurred Tuesday of this week at 3:50pm in the intersection of 16th Street and Beard. The intersection was closed for several hours while accident investigators policed the scene.  Initial investigation indicates a van traveling east on Beard ran the stop sign and was struck by a pickup truck traveling south on 16th Street. The van left the roadway after the impact and struck a utility pole.  The driver of the van, identified as Danielle Carter, 41 of Port Huron was airlifted to U of M Hospital but was pronounced dead a short time later. The passenger in the van was treated and released from a local hospital. The driver of the pickup, believed at this time to not be at fault fled the scene on foot. Police are working to identify this individual and determine his reason for leaving the scene. A passenger in the pickup also received serious injuries and is currently being treated.  Alcohol may have been a factor. The investigation is continuing.
