Polls Are Open For Presidential Primary In Michigan
February 28th, 2012

Voters head to the polls today to decide which presidential candidates will appear on the November ballot.  Polls will remain open until 8 p.m.  There are 11 Republican candidates looking to run in November, including Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum.   Michigan’s presidential primary is a “closed primary” which requires voters to request a Republican or Democratic ballot in writing before voting. The request can be made at the polling station on the day of the primary, and voters do not need to be a registered member of that political party to request the ballot.  President Barack Obama is the only candidate listed on the Democratic Primary ballot.  Although it is allowed for municipalities to place local issues on the presidential primary ballot, only one St. Clair County community has.  Voters in Casco Township will decide whether to authorize a four-year, 1-mill tax increase to support road improvement and maintenance. If passed, the millage would raise an estimated $142,807 in its first year.
