Northern Power Outages Continue
March 6th, 2012
Consumers Energy says 30,000 customers still had no power yesterday in northern and northwestern Michigan due to storms that began Friday. The outages included more than 14,000 in Leelanau, Benzie and Grand Traverse counties. The utility says the “destructive nature” of the storm has been a challenge to repair crews. The hope was for most customers north of U.S. 10 to have their power restored by midnight last night, but, those counties that were hit the hardest may be waiting until later today, those would include Benzie, Charlevoix, Crawford, Grand Traverse, Leelanau and Manistee. Authorities are asking that anyone noticing downed power lines to call (800) 477-5050 or local police.
