Port Huron Philanthropist Doug Austin has passed away.  Austin is remembered for his assistance with several organizations ranging from Downtown Port Huron projects, to most recently, the Acheson Ventures site where James Acheson, in a statement released to reporters, said that “my mission’s success is due in large majority to his vision and stewardship”. Acheson called Austin a long time friend who will be greatly missed.   For the ten years or more, he worked alongside Acheson Ventures to transfer riverfront sections of the Acheson property to the Community Foundation of St. Clair County, and was instrumental in  the vision and design of Studio 1219. Austin was a partner in a local accounting firm, he had served as  the Executive Vice-President of Acheson Ventures and was Trustee with the Community Foundation. Funeral services for Austin are through the Smith Family Funeral Home North.
